Mark Ravenhill was born in London, England, in 1960. He attended the University of Warwick and received a BA in English Literature. He then studied acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Ravenhill's plays have been performed at the Royal Court, Bush Theatre, Tricycle Theatre, Royal Exchange, Hampstead Theatre and Royal Court
In 1995 he won a Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy for his performance as Eric Morecambe in Morecambe and Wise. In 2000 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of East London for his contribution to drama. His plays have been published by Faber and Faber and include: The Body is a Ghost Story (winner of a Tony Award), The Raven King, The Actors' Parade, The History Boys and The Ravenholt Affair (winner of an Olivier award).
Mark Ravenhill is also the author of two novels: A Case of Spirit (2001) and The Art of Falling Apart (2005).
